I Just love the thrill of the hunt in the charity shops I as never know what I will find
to add to my stash.
This week is this collection of braided tasseling and some black netting.
Made in heavy cotton and some rayon. In short lengths that might be used as an edging to one of my small purses.Who knows. Sometimes its just having my collection around me is all thats necessary.:)

Do you have any favourite shops or markets you love to browse or hunt ;)

Small Hand Embroideries.

I make small embroideries like these from time to time.
Great for using up scraps of linen and all those ends of skeins.
I upcycle old linens that may have a saveable area still on them.
I draw a square or rectangle to fit within that area and then just freehand draw a simple picture.
I use a 5HB pencil to draw with and it stays quite well as I stitch.

I'm still not sure what I will do with them. Ideas include
A pocket on a childs dress, Small pincushion.
A small wall hanging maybe.Add to a country style crazy quilt.
I just love to stitch and dont always worry about what I'm going to use the embroidery for. The stitching is my thing :).

Finished Vest

A couple of weeks ago I finally finished the stitching on the felted vest.
In the end I didnt put the big flowers on. I feel they just didnt look right.
I will have to come up with another idea to use them on.
So I just had the twirling vines with large daisy like flowers done in a yummy bobbly wool.
A contrasting coloured bead for each centre.
Then a warm/vibrant lining.

The theme was for an Elizabethan Era item.
The rolled edge with the over stitching is reminiscent of that time and the
the floral embroidery was very popular back then along with formal gardens.
So I've put a contemporary feel to it.
I think it worked..lol.

Book Review.Embroidered Flora & Fauna

Embroidered Flora & Fauna
I found this book at the library yesterday and I thoroughly recommend it for anyone who loves embroidery.
Fantastic photographs.
The 2 authors are to be commended for a truly inspiring book.
The way the "Inspiration" Pages are organised into colour groups. I love it.
Now to hunt the net for a copy of my own.

Happy Stitching

Marys Needle n Thread

I'm an avid Reader of Marys Blog and website and there is the most amazing embroidery shown, not only by Mary but by heaps of her readers. Found this today and Im in Awe. WOW!!
Embroidered Crane

Felted Rocks

Over the past few weeks while cruising the net Ive come across a few lessons on how to "felt" Rocks.
So I thought I would have a go.
The whole process was most enjoyable. Im afraid I didnt keep note of where I found the lessons.
Make Note. Keep track of any good ideas I see. :)
If you read this and the lesson sounds familiar, then by all means let me know.
Anyway here are a few photos of "MY ROCKS"

And Embroidered

For the larger rocks I covered them with my handmade fabric. The result was colourful and pleasing. :)

Theres still one more felt rock to come.Im trying a more complicated design of gerberas. Will post as soon as Its done.

Till then

Collage Inspiration

Today I needed another inspiration input. So i splashed some paint around on some collages I had done.
I use a basic scrapbook, and on one side  I paste in images that Ive collected form magazines, and then on the opposite page I draw a copy.
But as you can see the drawing isnt a direct copy. I find that as you draw, the layout can change and some images are even left out.
So today I decided to get rid of the white page and just quickly painted the pages with watered down acrylic paint.
This little exercise is great for getting ideas moving , and to just be doing something. A collage is a much better point to start the designing process, than looking at a blank page.

And here are a few pages from one of my amaller sketchbooks showings images from Tapa cloth

And german design I found in a book

Maybe these may inspire you too..

Too much Reading

Crikey I read alot. So much that I am a bit slack on posting. But in saying that I have created new blogs for my future use.
http://henriettabentwhistle.webs.com

http://oscartheshetland.webs.com

Oscar's site is all about my Shetland Pony and is mainly aimed at children. Information, games, photos, etc etc. Get your kids to join up and tell Oscar about their pets.

The Henrietta one is all About Me. lol. My opinions on everything.

This blog will still have my art/craft work on it.
