Shabby Collage Book.#1. Finished

All done :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this project. It is beautifully tactile and squishy
with a few blank spaces for the addition of little tid-bits as I find them.
I've taken heaps of photos, but so I don't bore you to death, I will put them up over a couple of seperate posts.

Tutorial. Encrusting with French Knots

As I mentioned in my last post, quite a few stitchers out there are creating Encrusted Rocks. It all stems from this article here in
Stitch Magazine. Wonderful stitching done by
This is My how-to as I did it :)

A selection of buttons and small curtain rings that i found at a charity shop. I didnt use the tube bead after all.

2 Layers of fabric. The bottom one in the hoop.

Randomly stitched the objects between the layers.
I didnt worry about the lumps n bumps
as they add texture as I added the stitching. :)

Some of the French knots are tight and some loose to add more texture.Woven bars and woven spider web over the lumps.
a dash of lichen shaded threads to add colour here n there and
a yummy, very textured piece is created.
Now for another trip to the seaside. :)
The coast at Birdlings Flat is all stones.

All sizes and all washed smooth. Just perfect for this project.

French Knot Encrusting

Over the past few weeks Ive noticed other bloggers are into stitching encrusted rocks.
Well of course I had to as well.  Here are a few shots of the encrusting done but still waiting for our next trip to the coast to collect appropriate sized rocks.
These are such fun.

And then of course, I like to be different.
I had to experiment with red on redwool. And it worked out just fine.

That "is" a pinky red thread that is showing a brighter colour, not just the camera changing the colour. A brighter colour to add some zing.

Next post I will show my version of the encrusted rock. step-by-step.
